Digital Presence

Tonic3 welcomed the opportunity to translate ATEC’s new identity to its digital presence. Our mission was to create a portfolio-based website showcasing ATEC’s diverse community of people, projects, and programs to entice prospective faculty, students, and community partners , and prospective students to engage with the school.

The Approach

Goals

Tonic3’s goal was to enable ATEC website visitors to explore the multidisciplinary nature of ATEC’s program with an experience that highlighted, yet cohesively connected all, of its diverse community and areas of study and practice. Achieving this required an end-to-end UX process involving close collaboration with ATEC throughout.

Key Activities - Emphasis On Discovery

A series of research and discovery activities revealed key information needed to bring ATEC’s vision to life:

Prototypes Developed

Once ATEC and Tonic3 agreed on initial wireframes, the design team developed clickable prototypes that were evaluated through user testing. Informed by the findings from testing, Tonic3 spent the next few months working closely with ATEC to develop, refine, and launch the final website.

• Initial discussions and requirements gathering with client team members

• Rapid competitive analysis of peer institutions’ websites

• Exploratory interviews with representatives of ATEC’s priority participants

• Development of primary personas (attitudinal/behavioral profiles)

• Design studio held with the client team to ideate and sketch important areas of the site

The result

New Website Launched

The work resulted in the launch of a 150+ page website that includes over 100 pages dedicated to showcasing ATEC’s vibrant labs & studios, projects, and people. The site now acts as the digital gateway for learning about ATEC and all that it has to offer.

The Tonic3 team worked closely with us to develop a new digital presence for the School of Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication at UT Dallas. Their design expertise and outstanding commitment to customer service led to a one-of-a-kind site for our University.

About ATEC

ATEC formed in 2015 after the merging of two long-running programs at UT Dallas: the program in Arts & Technology (A&T) and the program in Emerging Media & Communication (EMAC). ATEC has experienced tremendous growth and currently enrolls more than 1,600 students across its undergraduate and graduate programs.
